Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Packer played college ball at Chapman University, Taft College, and Miami University in Ohio before a knee injury ended his playing career. He graduated in 2015 with a degree in sports leadership and management. Packer sometimes gets confused with the Matt Packer who played in the Cleveland Indians organization for several years.

In 2014, Packer gained his first coaching experience at IMG Academy. Packer impressed the coaches there enough that they helped him get a graduate assistant coaching job at Division III DeSales University in 2015. He stayed there two years before accepting an assistant coaching position at Post University in 2017. Packer coached at Post until the Baltimore Orioles hired him in late 2019.

Packer was scheduled to be the development coach for the 2020 Delmarva Shorebirds until the coronavirus pandemic caused the minor league season to be cancelled. He was fundamentals coach of Delmarva in 2021 and manager of the FCL Orioles in 2022. Packer took on a new role in 2023 as Complex Coordinator of Instruction located at the Orioles' spring training site.
