Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Matt Jackson played in the San Diego Padres minor league system from 2009 to 2013 and later pitched in independent ball.

Jackson was drafted by the Padres in the 31st round of the 2009 amateur draft. After two ho-hum seasons to start his professional career - he had ERAs of 4.97 and 4.98 in 2009 and 2010, respectively - Jackson went 5-1 with a 1.95 ERA in 17 games (8 starts) for the Fort Wayne Wizards in 2011, striking out 68 batters in 64 2/3 innings. He made the Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star team that year. He then regressed, posting ERAs of 4.24 and 5.37 in 2012 and 2013, respectively.

He began the 2013 campaign in the Padres system, but was released and joined the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the independent American Association. He returned to Winnipeg for 2014.
