Biographical Information

Marty Perez is credited in most sources with having played his final major league game for the Oakland Athletics on September 16, 1978, as a pinch-runner in the 9th inning of an 8-1 loss to the Texas Rangers. However, he was long gone from the A's by then, having played his last game for them on May 16th and being released the next day. He played the remainder of that season with the Tidewater Tides, AAA farm club of the New York Mets. It is not clear whether the phantom pinch-running appearance actually took place, and if so, who was the player involved.
