Biographical Information

Catcher/first baseman Martin Cott played in the Houston Astros system from 1968 to 1970. He was the third overall pick of the 1968 amateur draft, following Tim Foli and Pete Broberg and preceding fellow catcher Thurman Munson by one spot.

Cott split his rookie professional season between three teams - the Rookie level Covington Astros, the Single-A Greensboro Patriots and the Triple-A Oklahoma City 89ers - hitting a combined .234 with two home runs in 45 games. In 1969, he hit .237/.304/.358 in 54 games for the Williamsport Astros while his 10 errors ranked second among New York-Penn League catchers (behind Jim Deidel). In 1970, he played for the Williamsport Astros and Cocoa Astros, hitting a combined .228/.326/.365 with eight home runs while moving from catcher to first base.

Overall, Cott .234 with 14 home runs in 199 minor league games.
