Martiniano Garay
- Throws Right
Biographical Information[edit]
Martiniano Garay pitched in the minors and for the Cuban national team.
He was 2-0 for Cuba when they won the 1950 Central American and Caribbean Games. [1] Peter Bjarkman writes he was one of two token blacks on the team alongside Sandy Amorós as the team was not yet integrated much. [2] He was 1-1 with a 1.91 ERA in 14 games for the Almendares Blues in the 1950-1951 Cuban Winter League. [3] Despite that success, he would only pitch one more game in his CWL career.
The right-hander was 8-6 with a 4.98 ERA for the 1951 Tuneros de San Luis in the Mexican League. [4] He was 0-1 with a 22.50 ERA in his lone game for Almendares in the winter. [5] Moving to the Charros de Jalisco, he posted a 6-7, 2.90 record in 1952 then was 12-5 with a 3.38 ERA between two Mexican League teams the next year. [6]
Garay surfaced next with the Mineros de Fresnillo in 1955. In '56, he was 9-13 with a 5.94 ERA for them but hit .297/.407/.319. He was 1-5 between three Central Mexican League teams in 1957 to end his career.
