The son of Martin Dihigo and brother of Gilberto Dihigo, Martin Dihigo Jr. played four years in the minor leagues. Like Josh Gibson Jr., Eddie Collins Jr. and Ed Walsh Jr., he was nowhere near his father as a player. He did team with both Pete Rose and Tony Perez in the minors.

Signing with the Cincinnati Reds chain in 1959, he played that year for the Palatka Redlegs (.167, 1 RBI) and Geneva Redlegs (.206, 3 RBI). He played for Geneva again in 1960, hitting .247 with 3 HR and 44 RBI. In 1961, he only hit .145 with four RBI for the Topeka Reds. In 1962, Martin Jr. batted .275 with 3 HR and 26 RBI for Geneva and .190 with 3 RBI for the Macon Peaches.

After his baseball career ended, Dihigo returned to Cuba to help support Fidel Castro's new government just as his father had done. He cared for his father Martin Sr.'s later years and his father lived at his home.
