Biographical Information[edit]
Minor league reliever Mark Stancel played in the Oakland Athletics system from 1986 to 1990. He was drafted by the club in the 7th round of the January Regular Phase of the 1986 amateur draft.
In five seasons in the A's system, he was 23-29 with a 4.47 ERA in 163 games (28 starts). He began his career with a 5-2 record and a 3.38 ERA for the Medford A's his first campaign, but never posted an ERA under 4.25 after that. He developed brain cancer in 1991.
He died on October 16, 1993 at age 29.
