Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Mark Hallberg was a teammate of Buster Posey at Florida State University. He was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 9th round of the 2007 amateur draft and played in their organization from 2007 to 2011. He reached AAA, lining up with the Reno Aces of the Pacific Coast League in both 2010 and 2011, but never took the final step that would have made him a major league player. He was a pretty solid hitter in the minors, with averages of .313 with the Yakima Bears of the Northwest League in 2007; .283 with the Visalia Oaks of the California League in 2008, and .279 in 114 games with Reno in his final season.

Following his playing career, he was named manager of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the San Francisco Giants organization in 2019. On January 16, 2020, he was promoted to the coaching staff of the major league team under newly-appointed manager Gabe Kapler as an assistant coach. His appointment was overshadowed by that of Alyssa Nakken the same day as the first female coach in major league history. The two had the same title. His former college teammate Posey was still a player on the Giants at that time. In 2022, he moved to third base coaching duties with the Giants, and in 2024 to first base coach.
