Biographical Information[edit]

Mario Holmann was signed by scouts Carlos Rios and Edgar Rodriguez for the New York Yankees in December 2002, the same month he played for Nicaragua in the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games. He made his pro debut with the 2003 DSL Yankees, hitting .311 and stealing 16 bases. He split 2004 between the GCL Yankees (.258/.370/.348 in 20 G, 10 SB, 4 CS) and the Tampa Yankees (2 for 7). In 2005, he played for the Charleston RiverDogs, batting .271/.367/.303 with 40 steals in 48 tries over 78 games. Despite only playing half the time, he tied for the team lead in swipes. He fielded .974 at second base. Had he played full-time, he would have been on pace to lead the South Atlantic League in stolen bases.

In 2006, Holmann played for Tampa (.254/.391/.310 in 28 G, 3 SB, 6 CS) and Charleston (.213/.239/.335, 24 SB, 4 CS in 71 G). He ended his US career in 2007 with Tampa (.179/.360/.179 in 17 G) and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (0 for 3).
