Biographical Information

Reliever Marino Castillo pitched in the San Francisco Giants system from 1992 to 1996 and in the San Diego Padres system in 1997. He was 36-31 with a 20 saves and 92 games finished in 237 appearances. In 506 innings, he allowed 515 hits and 149 walks while striking out 431 batters. Perhaps his best season was 1995, when he went 7-5 with a 2.20 ERA in 43 relief appearances split between the San Jose Giants and Shreveport Captains. In 94 innings, he struck out 82 batters and walked only 26.

He died in a car accident on September 15, 1997 at the age of 26.
