Biographical Information

Marie Wegman pitched and played third base and shortstop in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1947 to 1950 for the Rockford Peaches, Fort Wayne Daisies, Muskegon Lassies and Grand Rapids Chicks.

Wegman was a player on a company softball team when she was spotted by a scout from the AAGPBL. She was offered a contract, but turned it down, but changed her mind after she found out she would train in Cuba and that the league would pay her more than she was currently earning at a factory job.

Wegman hit only .175/~.237/.205 for Rockford as a rookie and fielded .881. In 1948 with Fort Wayne, she had a 6.56 ERA in three games on the hill. At the plate, she only went 8 for 86 with a triple, 13 walks and 2 steals. She struggled some more in 1949 and hit .139/~.241/.145 for the Lassies. With Grand Raspids in her last year, she hit .234/~.334/.273.

She played her last season in 1950 after her father died. She returned home and attend classes at the University of Cincinnati. She later worked as a designer of packaging equipment and machinery and at the Lodge & Shirley company until her retirement in 1988. She died of heart failure at 78.
