Marcelino Santana pitched for the Dominican Republic national team. In the 1994 Baseball World Cup, he was 2-0 with no runs allowed in 16 innings of work (12 H, 3 BB, 14 K). The rest of the Dominican staff went 0-5 with a 5.52 ERA. He beat Rolando Cretis and Italy (saved by Estenio Rosado) and threw a two-hit shutout to top Guillaume Coste and France; David Meurant and Lahcene Benhamida had the French hits. He tied for second in the Cup in wins (one behind Masanori Sugiura and was one of three pitchers with a 0 ERA, alongside Liván Hernández and Edward van Bennekom. Alongside Japan's Sugiura, he was named an All-Star pitcher.
