Manuel de Jesus Torres

Biographical Information[edit]

Manuel de Jesus Torres was on the Brussels Kangaroos in the 2000 Belgian First Division. He hit .415/.439/.787 with 10 homers in 94 AB, fielding .882. In a high-offense aluminum bat league, he did not make the leaders in most categories, though he did tie for 4th in home runs. [1] In '01, he switched teams and was at .398/.419/.614 on offense and .794 in the field. [2] Playing for the Belgian national team in the 2001 European Championship, he got one at-bat; pinch-hitting for Filip van der Meiren in a 8-1 loss to France, he was retired by Jean-Philippe Miet. He stayed in at second base but did not handle a chance. [3]

Playing for the Royal Antwerp Eagles in 2002, he fell to .324/.342/.392 and fielded .943. [4] For the '03 Eagles, he eked out a .162/.222/.216 line and fielded .870; given the lower numbers in the league, this may have been when they switched to wood bats. [5] In 2004, he produced at a .224/.277/.328 rate, fielding .919, for the Mortsel Stars. [6] He returned to Antwerp in 2005 and hit .281/.333/.351, fielding .864, to close out his career. [7]
