Manny Alvarez spent 11 seasons in the minors.
Alvarez debuted in 1972 with the Cafeteros de Cordoba and hit .330/.410/.481 in 48 games. He split '73 between the Alijadores de Tampico (.282/.387/.449, 66 BB, 14 HR) and the El Paso Sun Kings (a respectable .268/.354/.357 in his only 16 games in the US). In 1974, Manny hit .250/.298/.279 in limited action in Mexico (46 games). He returned to Cordoba in 1975 and rebounded to .322/.367/.480 with 78 runs, 7 triples and 85 RBI. With the 1976 Cafeteros, he batted .290/.352/.448. He hit .313/.401/.459 the next year, his last .300 season, with a career-high 29 doubles. He drew 62 walks while striking out 56 times.
Alvarez fell to .290/.394/.440 in 1978 but still drove in 75, drew a career-high 70 walks and scored a career-best 80 runs. He hit .282/.375/.414 in '79, his last season with Cordoba. Moving to the Reynosa Broncos in 1980, Manny batted .294/.384/.421 in 68 games before the strike, then .237/.342/.340 in 33 games after the strike. With Reynosa and the Mexico City Red Devils in 1981, he put up a combined line of .263/.358/.362 in 75 games. He wrapped up in 1982 with the Azules de Coatzacoalcos, at .232/.390/.323.
Overall, in 11 seasons in the Mexican League, Alvarez hit .289/.376/.427 with 1,024 hits, 181 doubles, 485 walks, 525 runs and 534 RBI in 1,079 games.
