Biographical Information[edit]
Maney Cabreja was a star amateur third baseman in the Dominican Republic. He debuted for the Dominican national team in 1970, appearing in the 1970 Amateur World Series. He played in the 1971 Pan American Games. He hit .375 in the 1972 Amateur World Series and was named the All-Star at 3B. He was in the 1973 Amateur World Series. He was the lightest-hitting regular for the Dominicans when they won the Silver Medal in the 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games, batting .227/.320/.227 with 5 runs and one RBI in 9 games while fielding .944 at the hot corner. He split third base fairly evenly with Narciso González.
He led the 1976 Amateur World Series in hits (25) and average (.521) and was again named the All-Star 3B. He was on the Dominican national team when they won Silver in the 1978 Central American and Caribbean Games and hit .347 when they won another Silver in the 1979 Pan American Games. He also played in the 1981 Intercontinental Cup and 1982 Amateur World Series. He was a backup on the Dominican squad that won Gold in the 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games, the only Dominican baseball Gold in a Central American and Caribbean Games between 1962 and 2010.
In 2008, he was inducted into the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame.
