Biographical Information[edit]

Maje McDonnell was a Philadelphia Phillies coach from 1951 to 1957. He first joined the team as a batting practice pitcher in 1947, after graduating from Villanova University, where he starred in both baseball and basketball in spite of his small size. His college studies were interrupted by service in the Army in World War II, where he won five battle stars and a Bronze Star.

After his years as a coach, he continued to work for the Phillies as a scout and as a goodwill ambassador in the community. He lived all his life in Philadelphia, PA and died there at age 89 in 2010.
