Biographical Information[edit]

Maiko Loyola signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates shortly before he turned 17. He debuted that summer with the DSL Pirates, hitting .231/~.324/.302. He returned to the DSL Pirates in 2003 and batted .234/~.340/.343. He came stateside in 2004 with the GCL Pirates and hit .256/.341/.372. The outfielder batted .274/.328/.372 for the 2005 GCL Pirates and stole 10 bases in 12 tries, his first time with double-digit steals.

Loyola moved to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays chain in 2006 (after being picked in the 2005 Rule V Draft minor league phase) and hit .241/.345/.338 for their Hudson Valley Renegades affiliate. In 2007, he produced at a .248/.370/.383 rate for the Columbus Catfish and .307/.381/.489 for Hudson Valley. Overall, he stole 38 bases in 49 tries and scored 77 runs.

Maiko hit .280/.361/.367 for the 2008 Catfish and stole 45 bases in 62 attempts. He led the South Atlantic League with 11 outfield errors and tied for the most times caught stealing (17)

A free agent, Maiko signed with the Pirates. His second time in their system did not prove a good one as he hit just .198/.260/.382 in 42 games for the 2009 Lynchburg Hillcats, earning him his release. He signed with the Detroit Tigers and batted .209/.248/.281 in 42 games for their Lakeland Flying Tigers club. Overall, he only stole 5 bases in 12 tries for the year.
