MLB All-Rookie Team

From BR Bullpen

The MLB All-Rookie Team was first announced following the 2023 season and served as the replacement of the Topps All-Star Rookie Team, which had been an annual distinction granted since 1959 by the Topps baseball card company. When Topps was sold to Fanatics in 2022, Major League Baseball took the opportunity to re-take control of the All-Rookie team, in a fashion similar to how it had taken control of other major awards in previous decades, such as the Comeback Player of the Year Award by creating its own award, or in coming to an agreement with the Baseball Writers Association of America to take ownership of the MVP Award, Cy Young Award and Rookie of the Year Award, even if the voting is still conducted by the BBWAA.

Like its predecessor, the MLB All-Rookie Team recognizes the top rookie player at the eight traditional defensive positions, with all outfielders taken as a group, plus two starting pitchers, a relief pitcher and a designated hitter. Contrary to the Topps Award, there is also a second team of "runner-ups" in addition to the official award winners. The winners are selected by MLB Pipeline, the segment of mlb.com that tracks the amateur draft, the minor leagues and more generally the development of prospects. The first edition of the awards came in 2023.
