Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Lyon Richardson had a rough start to his major league career. Starting for the Cincinnati Reds against the Washington Nationals on August 6, 2023, he gave home runs to the first two batters he faced - C.J. Abrams and Lane Thomas - both of them on the first pitch. This was considered to be something completely unprecedented in major league history. He ended up pitching three innings, giving up two more runs, and was charged with a 6-3 loss.

He was drafted by the Reds in the 2nd round of the 2018 amateur draft out of a high school in Florida. He had earlier played on the USA's 15 and under national team.
