Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Luis Cruz has played in the Houston Astros minor league system since 2008 (through 2014). He was taken by the club in the 9th round that year's draft, a few picks after outfielder Dave Sappelt.

After toiling in Rookie- and A-ball for the first five years of his career, Cruz reached Double-A for the first time in 2013 and went 2-0 with a 0.53 ERA in 4 games (2 starts) for the Corpus Christi Hooks. One of his starts was a complete game shutout. All told, he was 10-6 with a 4.56 ERA in 31 games (20 starts) that year, as he spent most of the campaign with the High-A Lancaster JetHawks (with whom he partook in a no-hitter - he relieved starter Kyle Hallock to help Lancaster beat the Stockton Ports 2-0 on May 12). He was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star following the campaign.

Cruz began 2014 with Corpus Christi.
