Biographical Information[edit]

Luis Cintrón has pitched for the Puerto Rican national team and in Puerto Rico's amateur league.

The little left-hander shone in the 2012 Haarlem Baseball Week, outdueling David Bergman of the host Dutch national team, 1-0 in the semifinals. For the event, he was 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA. In the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, he led Puerto Rico in IP (11 2/3 IP) and strikeouts (9) and had the best ERA of any of their hurlers with 4+ innings (1.54). He lost to powerhouse Cuba and Norge Luis Ruiz despite allowing only one run in five innings. Facing former major leaguer Wilton Lopez and Nicaragua, he carried a 1-0 lead into the 7th but allowed two on with two outs and was relived by Jose Soler, who allowed an inherited runner to score and Puerto Rico would lose 2-1 in extra innings.

Cintrón was again called on to face Cuba in the 2015 Pan American Games but did not match his 2014 performance against them, getting roughed up for 7 hits and 4 runs in 2 2/3 IP. It was his lone appearance in Toronto and his 13.53 ERA was second-highest on Puerto Rico, ahead of only Raul Rivera. He still made Puerto Rico's roster for the 2015 Premier 12.
