Biographical Information[edit]

Luciano Maoloni played first base for the first Italian national team assembled, for a 1952 exhibition against Spain. He was also with Italy for their first tournament, the 1954 European Championship. In game 1, he started at first and hit 8th, going 0 for 2 and had two putouts before Pietro Caranzetti took over during a 6-1 win over Belgium. In the second game (the finale of a short tournament for the first European Championship, Italy played the other winner in the openers, Spain. He came in for the 9th inning of a 7-4 win, replacing Caranzetti. He did not bat but handled two assists as Italy became the first European titlist. His career in Italy's top league, Serie A, ended with Lazio in 1957, when he hit .220/.273/.220 with 8 runs and 6 RBI in 12 games.
