Biographical Information[edit]

Louise Erickson Sauer played three seasons in the AAGPBL. She was 1-0 with a 5.74 ERA as a rookie with the Rockford Peaches in 1948. In 1949, she had a 17-6, 1.54 record with only 145 hits in 216 innings. She was 6th in the league in ERA, fourth in wins and third in shutouts (8, trailing only Jean Faut and Lois Florreich). She beat Grand Rapids, 5-2, in a complete game win in game 3 of the finals, as Rockford won it all; she was the #3 starter on an excellent staff behind Florreich and Helen Fox. She joined Florreich and Faut as the league's All-Star pitchers.

In 1950, the 20/21-year-old right-hander went 16-10 with a 2.52 ERA and also hit .239, more than three of the Rockford starting position players. She again was the club's #3 hurler behind Florreich and Fox. She tied Dorothy Mueller for 7th in the league in wins, was 9th in strikeouts (88) and 6th in complete games (23). In the finals, she won game 2, 7-3, over the Fort Wayne Daisies, but lost game six 8-0. Rockford wound up winning in 7 games thanks to a 3-1 performance by Fox in the championship round. It would be the Arcadia native's last season.

Overall, Louise went 34-16 with a 2.13 ERA in the AAGPBL and batted .210.
