Biographical Information

Lou Saban's first paying job was serving as caddy for one Ralph "Bottles" Capone, the older brother of Al Capone. After graduating from Indiana University, Saban spent four years playing professional football for the Cleveland Browns, including three years as team captain. Upon retirement following the 1949 season, Saban began a six-decade career in sports, coaching both in the NFL, Collegiate (All levels), High School, Arena Football and as a minor league football coach.

He also made a few ventures outside of football, either as President or scout for the New York Yankees, Athletic Director at the University of Cincinnati or working at George Steinbrenner's horse racing grounds. His one non-sports venture came in the 1950s when he worked as a door-to-door salesman.
