Biographical Information[edit]
Second baseman Lou Ortiz had a 13-year pro career from 1946 through 1958. Although he never played a game in the major leagues, he was on the roster of the Philadelphia Phillies early in the 1955 season and got a card in the Topps set that year. Though he was 31 years old, he got every chance to win the starting job in Philadelphia that spring because of his good glove. In May, however, as the time to cut rosters down from 28 men to 25 approached, the Phillies made a deal for Ortiz with the Seattle Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League, and he never got another chance to play in The Show.
