Biographical Information[edit]
Lou Legett played four seasons in the majors. Most of his at-bats came during his rookie year, 1929, with the Boston Braves. He then played for the Boston Red Sox.
Legett was born, and died, in New Orleans, LA, but he doesn't seem to have played for the New Orleans team in the minors. He had a ten-year minor league career, spending parts of three years with the Reading Keystones and parts of three other years with the Syracuse Chiefs.
For the 1929 Braves, Al Spohrer was the #1 catcher with 109 appearances, followed by Zack Taylor with 31 appearances (Taylor was picked up off waivers halfway though the season by the Chicago Cubs). Lou had 28 appearances, beginning on May 8th.
The book Red Sox by the Numbers states that Doc Legett had become a dentist before coming to the Red Sox.
