Biographical Information

Lou Bauer was a local resident given a chance to pitch at age 19 on August 13, 1918 for the Philadelphia Athletics with the Washington Senators in town. Walter Johnson was the opposing pitcher for the Senators. Lou relieved Vic Keen, who had gone the first eight innings. He faced Ray Morgan and Howie Shanks, giving them both walks, and was then pulled in favor of reliever Willie Adams who (after a batter reached on an error), allowed Moran and Shanks to score on a single by Walter Johnson, who got three hits that day. Given that one of the two runs he allowed was earned, he is part of the small fraternity of pitchers with a lifetime infinite ERA.

Lou also pitched for the 1920 Danville Tobacconists.
