Los Angeles Daily News

From BR Bullpen

The Los Angeles Daily News is a daily newspaper based in Los Angeles, CA with its offices in Chatsworth, CA. It has the second-largest circulation in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, after the Los Angeles Times. It is known for its coverage of local news around southern California, whereas the Times tends to focus on the main city and on national and international news. This stems from the Daily News tracing its roots back to the Van Nuys Call, founded in 1911, which was a local paper for suburban Van Nuys, CA; in 1976, it became the Valley News and Green Sheet, dropping the association to Van Nuys, and took its current name in 1981.

In 1985, it was bought by Jack Kent Cooke, who greatly expanded its coverage, and it took over as the city's second paper following the disappearance of the Los Angeles Herald and Examiner in 1989. Following Cooke's death in 1997, it was purchased by the Southern California News Group.
