Biographical Information

Long John Reilly was born in Cincinnati, died in Cincinnati, and played his entire 10-year major league career in Cincinnati, mostly in the American Association.

He was twice second in the league in batting average, led the league in slugging twice and was second twice, and led the league in home runs twice. He hit a notable 26 triples in 1890 while playing in the National League.

He played alongside Bid McPhee in the infield for most of his career. McPhee also played his entire major league career in Cincinnati.

He hit for the cycle three times in his career, a record he shares with Bob Meusel, Babe Herman and Adrian Beltre.
