Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Logan O'Hoppe was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 23rd round of the 2018 amateur draft out of a high school on Long Island. He immediately earned attention from the team's top brass with an excellent first professional season, batting .367 with 21 RBIs in 34 games for the GCL Phillies West in 2018. In 2019, he moved up to the Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York-Penn League and hit .216 in 45 games, with 5 homers and 26 RBIs. Following the season, he played winter ball in the Australian Baseball League, batting .258 in 28 games for the Adelaide Giants.

He was then set back by the Coronavirus pandemic, losing the 2020 season as the minor leagues were shut down. In 2021, he played for three different teams, although 85 of his 104 games were with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws in the High-A East; he added 13 games in AA with the Reading Fightin Phils, and 7 in AAA with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The result of this whirlwind season was a batting line of .270/.331/.458, with 19 doubles and 17 homers, securing his place among his organization's top prospects. He was anmed an organizational All-Star, and played in the Arizona Fall League, where he was selected for the All-Star Game. In 2022, he was at Reading for 75 games, hitting .275 with 15 homers and being named to play in the 2022 Futures Game at Dodger Stadium. With the Phillies solid at the catching position with J.T. Realmuto signed to a long-term contract, he became available to be traded at the trading deadline and on August 3rd was sent to the Los Angeles Angels in return for OF Brandon Marsh. He stayed in AA, being assigned to the Rocket City Trash Pandas of the Southern League. There, he hit .306 in 29 games and received the call-up to L.A. in late September, making his big league debut on September 28th. That day, he started at catcher for the Angels against the Oakland Athletics, going 1 for 3 in a 4-1 win. His hit came in his first big league at-bat, a single to center field off Adrian Martinez. He went 4 for 14 (.286) in 5 games.

In 2023, he was the Angels' starting catcher on Opening Day, March 30th, in part due to an injury to Max Stassi who had been the regular the previous season. That made him the youngest catcher in team history to start on the opening day, besting Buck Rodgers by a few months. However, his season was cut short early, as he played only 16 games, batting .283 with 4 homers and 13 RBIs, before being shut down for the remainder of the season on April 21st with a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder.
