The Llaneros de Portuguesa (Portuguesa Plainsmen) played in the 1975-1976 Venezuelan League when the Tiburones de La Guaira and Leones del Caracas merged due to high rent at the Estadio Universitario. The Llaneros, based in Acarigua, finished 33-31 and lost in the semi finals. They were managed by Jim Williams. Following the season they divided back into their original components. The team was nicknamed the "Tibuleones" by Venezuelan fans.
