Lionel Roberts Stadium
Lionel Roberts Stadium is a small multi-use stadium in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. It has often hosted baseball over the years. Elrod Hendricks was signed by the Milwaukee Braves after playing in an exhibition game there in 1959. On December 20, 1969, Santurce and Arecibo of the Puerto Rican Winter League played a game there in honor of Hendricks -- the only time a Puerto Rican League game has been held away from the Island. Valmy Thomas made the arrangements. According to Puerto Rican baseball writer Miguel Frau, that game was supposed to be the third in a test series to prove the viability of a Virgin Islands franchise in the league. The others were never played, including one slated for St. Croix that was postponed when air transportation for the short hop was unavailable.
