Biographical Information[edit]
Lester Dole played only one game, at age 19, for the 1875 New Haven Elm Citys. He hit .500.
A couple other Connecticut boys played one game for the New Haven team that year and hit .500. Fred Goldsmith, who went on years later to become a major league pitcher, was also 19 when he went 2-for-4 for the team. Rit Harrison was older, 25, and he also went 2-for-4.
The team went 7-40 that year, with a .219 batting average, and one wonders if they couldn't have used the services of these players for more than just one game.
