Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Leody Taveras was signed by the Texas Rangers on July 2, 2015. He began his professional career in 2016 with the DSL Rangers 2, but after just 11 games of hitting .385, he moved to the U.S., where he was assigned to the AZL Rangers. Before the year was out, he was playing in the Northwest League with the Spokane Indians. Between the three stops, he hit .271/.324/.366 in 73 games, with 42 runs and 18 stolen bases. In 2017, he spent a full season with the Hickory Crawdads in the South Atlantic League. In 134 games, he hit .249/.312/.360 with 8 homers and 50 RBIs. In 2018, he moved up to the Down East Wood Ducks of the Carolina League and had similar numbers - .246/.312/.332. He scored 65 runs and drove in 48 in 132 games. In those two seasons, he was 3.5 years younger than the average player in the league, which explains why he was selected to play in the 2018 Futures Game. He was also a mid-season All-Star in the Carolina League, and an organizational All-Star for the Rangers. That winter, he played for the Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican League.

He is a cousin of Willy Taveras.
