Biographical Information[edit]
The year 1914 was a good year for Kavanaghs. The only three Kavanaghs to play major league baseball (through 2019) all made their major league debuts that year. Charlie Kavanagh, born in Chicago, IL, played for the Chicago White Sox, Marty Kavanagh, from New Jersey, played for the Detroit Tigers, and Leo Kavanagh, born in Chicago, IL, appeared in the Federal League with the Chicago Chi-Feds.
Leo was 19 when he played in the majors, and is not listed as ever playing in the minors. He was in five games for manager Joe Tinker, on a team that finished second in the Federal League. Leo was a shortstop, as was player-manager Tinker. Leo hit .273, higher than Tinker did, and made no errors in the field.
