Legion Field (Lake Charles)

From BR Bullpen

Located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Legion Field was home to minor league baseball for approximately two decades. The park opened in 1934 as home to the Lake Charles Explorers of the Evangeline League. However, the stadium burned down just two months into the season. The part was rebuilt, and the Lake Charles Skippers played there until World War II.

Following the war, baseball returned to Legion Field in 1950, when the Lake Charles Lakers began play in the newly former Gulf Coast League. The team returned to the Evangeline League in 1954 and was renamed the Lake Charles Giants in 1956. The circuit folded following the 1957 season, and Legion Field has been without pro ball since that time.

In 2009, Legion Field was renamed Alvin Dark Stadium, after big league player and manager Alvin Dark.
