Biographical Information[edit]
Lee Meyer looked like a star in his first major league game on September 27, 1909, getting three hits in four at-bats. However, he didn't get any hits in his next six games with the Brooklyn Superbas and his major league career was over. All of his big league games were at shortstop. Sporting Life listed him as "Meyers" in box scores.
Lee played ten seasons in the minors, mostly after his major league stint. He had three seasons with the Trenton Tigers.
One site [1] has a Greenville News item about Lee facing Joe Jackson when Jackson tried his hand at pitching. Lee was playing for the Anderson Electricians and was one of five batters who were hit by Jackson's pitches. Lee had his arm broken. The BR minor league database does not show Jackson as pitching when he was in the same league as Meyer, but Jackson's SABR biography says he did some pitching while in that league. The Greenville News article also refers to Lee as "Meyers".
The minor league database has a gap for Lee in 1911. However, a "Lee Myers" is listed as playing that year for the Syracuse Stars. This might well be him - Lee Meyer had played for Syracuse the previous year.
The minor league database also has a gap for Lee in 1921. However a "Lee Meyers" is listed as playing second base that year for the Charleston Pals. Lee Meyer frequently played second base in the minors, so this could be him as well.
