Biographical Information

Catcher Lee Garvin played 15 seasons in the minor leagues, from 1901 to 1915. He spent four of those seasons, 1901 to 1904, with the St. Joseph Saints, his longest tenure with any club. Available records indicate he reached 100 hits only once, with the Portsmouth Pirates in 1912, when he had 125, but he could hold his own with the bat—the next year, back with Portsmouth, he hit .281 in 285 at-bats.

He also managed, skippering the Muskogee Navigators/Okmulgee club for the latter part of the 1910 season, replacing Ed Nichols. In 1911, he headed the Oklahoma City Indians, leading them to a 72-77, 7th place finish. In 1913, he led the Pirates to a 57-77 finish, 31.5 games out of first place in the Virginia League. He began 1915 as the manager of the Shreveport Gassers, but was replaced by Syd Smith.
