Biographical Information[edit]

Larry Wimberly was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the third round of the 1994 amateur draft. He made his debut with thw Martinsville Phillies of the Appalachian League in 1994 with an era of 2.56 with 67 K's in 70 innings pitched. He was the South Atlantic League's Most Valuable Pitcher in 1995 while pitching for the Piedmont Phillies. Larry was traded to the Boston Red Sox in a 6 player deal before the 1996 season. In two seasons in Single-A with the Red Sox, he went 7-9 with an era of 4.89. He was selected by Philadelphia in the minor league phase of the 1997 Rule V Draft.

He seemed to returned to form when he returned to the Phillies organization. He had a 7-2 record and 3.63 era with the Clearwater Phillies. Despite a seemingly decent season, he was released by the Phillies following the season. Larry was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1999 and split the season between the Single-A Hickory Crawdads and Lynchburg Hillcats. He began the 2000 season in Lynchburg, but was promoted to AA Altoona Curve after posting a 12-2 record with a miniscule 1.88 era. His 16 wins combined led the Pirates organization.

He split the next two seasons between Altoona and AAA Nashville Sounds.
