Biographical Information[edit]

Larry Whisenton was drafted in the second round of the 1975 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves.

He was the seventh youngest player in the league in his first big league season, 1977. He made his debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers. His first career hit was on September 26th against the Houston Astros. The opposing pitcher was Joaquin Andujar. He played a few games fopr the Braves each season until 1981, except for 1980 which he spent entirely in the minors. He finally saw a bit more playing time in 1982, getting into 84 games with a .238 average, 4 homers and 17 RBIs. All 4 of his career home runs were solo shots.

Whisenton also spent 10 seasons in the minor leagues, hitting .272 in 1,175 games. In 3,920 at-bats, he collected 1,068 hits. In 1985 - his final professional season - he hit a career-high .316 while splitting the season between the Greenville Braves and Richmond Braves.
