Biographical Information[edit]
Larry Ressler was the first French-born MLB player. Ressler appeared in 27 of the 28 games played by the 1875 Washington Nationals, a team which went 5-23.
Larry hit .193 while the team as a whole hit .194.
He also played ball with the Reading Actives in 1874-76. The Actives were famous as a top club. Ressler played second base and was team captain for part of the time. In 1877, Ressler and some of the other Actives moved to Erie. Source: The Reading Eagle, April 17, 1921.
Records show a player known only as "Ressler" with the Actives in 1884 and with the Lebanon Pretzel Eaters in 1892, although it isn't necessarily Larry.
