Biographical Information

Larry Pardo has been a minor league pitcher, a minor league coach and a scout. His son Lawrence Pardo was drafted out of high school.

Larry was picked by the Texas Rangers in the sixth round of the 1984 amateur draft, one round before they took another right-handed pitcher, but who would wind up in the Show (Scott Anderson). Pardo debuted with the GCL Rangers in '84, going 1-5 with two saves and a 4.72 ERA; he walked 34 in 47 2/3 innings. He split 1985 between the GCL Rangers (1-0, 5 shutout innings) and Burlington Rangers (0-5, 9.61, 60 BB in 39 1/3 IP). In 1986, Pardo started off with the Daytona Beach Admirals, going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 14 walks in 14 innings. Moving to the New York Yankees chain for the rest of the summer, he allowed five runs in four innings, losing his only decision.

Pardo signed with the California Angels in 1987 and continued to show horrendous control, with 110 walks in 71 2/3 innings for the Quad Cities Angels. He had a 1-7, 9.04 record in 38 games (5 starts). Despite pitching mostly in relief, he led the Midwest League in both walks and wild pitches (31). Returning to Quad Cities in '88, he was much better - 0-1, Sv, 2.56, 33 BB in 56 1/3 IP. Larry split 1989 between the Quad Cities (5-9, 4.03) and Midland Angels (4 R in 8 IP) clubs. He ended his career with the 1990 Palm Springs Angels, going 9-10 with a 4.16 ERA.

Overall, Pardo had a 17-39, 5.16 record and 3 saves in 158 minor league games (71 starts). He had walked 375 in 500 1/3 innings, striking out 361 and allowing 469 hits. He had thrown 57 wild pitches, over half of them in that wild 1987 season.

Pardo served as an assistant pitching coach for the Portland Sea Dogs (1996) and pitching coach for the Utica Blue Sox and Brevard County Manatees (1999). He has since been a scout for the Milwaukee Brewers and Houston Astros. His most notable signing has been Ryan Braun. He also signed Michael Brantley. Pardo returned to coaching with the AZL Diamondbacks in 2014-2015, GCL Nationals in 2018-2019, and FCL Nationals in 2021.
