Biographical Information[edit]
Larry Babich was a college coach and sportswriter.
A baseball and basketball player in college, he served in the Infantry in Germany. He joined The Jersey Journal in 1960 and wrote for the paper for over 30 years. He was the first head coach at the New York Institute of Technology (1966-1972) and then coached at Jersey City State College (1973-1985, winning 128 games and setting a school record for wins, since broken). He also coached the Jersey Pilots in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League for 19 years, winning 427 years and coaching Rick Cerone, Charlie Puleo and Eric Young Sr. among 14 major leaguers he produced. He also coached basketball at Rogosin High School, was media relations director for a women's professional basketball team and co-authored a book on Sports Films.
