Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Larry Abbott spent seven years in the minors, all in the Kansas City A's/Oakland A's chain; his son Kyle Abbott would play in the majors. Larry began his career in 1964 with the Wytheville A's, going 6-2 with a 4.37 ERA. In '65, Abbott pitched for the Leesburg A's and was 9-7 with a 2.50 ERA. The next year, the right-handed hurler was 1-0, 3.75 for the Burlington Bees and 4-10, 3.21 with the Lewiston Broncs. In 1967, Larry was 0-2 with a 1.89 ERA for Burlington, only pitching 11 games and presumably injured. The next season, his line read 10-4, 2.53 for the Peninsula Grays. The 1969 year presented him with a 3-3, 3.54 campaign for the Birmingham Barons. His last year was also with Birmingham and he went 7-12 with a 3.32 ERA. Overall, his career record was an even 40-40.
