Lamesa Indians

As of 2006, the last professional baseball team in Lamesa, TX was the Lamesa Indians. On August 1, 1957 the Midland Indians of the Southwestern League moved to the city and finished the year there. Managed by Hank O'Neal, the Indians went 45-79 overall. The Washington Senators farm team had the worst record of any of the 4 teams to complete the season (eight had begun the year). Former and future big-leaguers included SS Ossie Alvarez (.362/~.434/.461, 19 SB, third in the league in average), OF Sandy Valdespino (.295/~.411/.506) and corner infielder Carlos Pascual (.350/~.412/.564, 5th in the league in average and the team leader in homers {17} and RBI {89}). The team did not return in 1958.
