Biographical Information[edit]

In his major league debut for the St. Louis Cardinals, pitcher Kyle Leahy was brought into the game in a surprisingly high-leverage situation. With the Cards having just taken a 7-6 lead over the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on July 7, 2023, he took the mound in the bottom of the 7th. He struck out the first batter he faced, Tim Anderson, but things went downhill from there as he allowed a homer to the next batter, Luis Robert, and then loaded the bases with a single and two walks before Chris Stratton forced in the go-ahead run with another walk. Leahy was charged with the loss as the Cardinals lost the game, 8-7. The fact that he was in the game at all at that point was a clear reflection of the struggles by the Cardinals' regular relievers that year.

His uncle, Thomas Leahy, pitched in the minors from 1991-1993, reaching AAA.
