Biographical Information[edit]
Kuninobu Sunaoshi was the coach of Rikkyo University when Shigeo Nagashima went there. Sunaoshi later managed the Kokutetsu Swallows in 1961 (67-60-3, third place) and 1962 (51-79-4, last place). He was succeeded by Shinji Hamazaki. Sunaoshi was hired as manager of the Sankei Swallows early in 1965, replacing Giichi Hayashi. He was 42-81-4 over the remainder of the year and finished last. Sunaoshi was known as the coach of the 1,000 midnight grounders for his habit of having fielding practice with 1,000 grounders late at night.
