Kootenay and Washington League
The Kootenay and Washington League (also known as the British Columbia League and the British Columbia-Washington League) existed in 1897 with teams from Kaslo and Rossland, in British Columbia and Spokane in Washington. Nelson, British Columbia planned to field a team as well, but failed to do so.
The league had played 29 of its 44-game schedule when the Rossland team went broke, and the league disbanded. The Kootenaian newspaper of Kaslo put up a trophy for the league championship, which was not awarded.
