Kobayakawa was signed by the Daiei Hawks in 1988, and he spent his first three seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He was traded to the Chunichi Dragons for Koju Hirohashi in 1990, but he still stayed in the ni-gun in the next two seasons. The Dragons then traded him to the Hiroshima Carp for Takamasa Matsui, and Kobayakawa had a 6.92 ERA in 18 games in 1993. He only pitched one game in 1994, then his ERA was 6.92 in 30 appearances in 1995. Kobayakawa improved to a 3.77 ERA in 46 relief outings in 1996, but he tore his Achilles tendon in 1997, and he missed the 1998 season. The Carp then released him, and he signed with the Taichung Agan. However, Kobayakawa only pitched one game in 1999, then he announced his retirement.
Overall, Kobayakawa was 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA, struck out 45 and pitched 66 innings in 5 years in NPB.
