Biographical Information

Koichi Emoto pitched for three seasons in Nippon Pro Baseball and one year in the minors.

Emoto was a fourth-round pick of the Chunichi Dragons in 1984 NPB draft. He had his best season as a rookie with the big team in 1987, going 3-4 with a 4.08 ERA in 36 games. He allowed Sachio Kinugasa's 2,500th hit, as Kinugasa became the 4th NPB player to that level. Emoto fell to a 8.71 ERA and 2.03 WHIP in 12 games in 1988 and allowed two runs in two innings in early 1989. In June, he was dealt with Hidetsugu Nishimura to the Daiei Hawks for Hiromichi Nakamura and Takayuki Shirai, one of them notable players. He only pitched in the minors for Daiei. In 1990, he played for the Salinas Spurs in the US (7-4, 6 Sv, 3.07), one of the top pitchers on a staff that was 47-93 with a 4.63 ERA. He was second on the team in wins (behind Steve Maye), tied Kenichi Uchiyama for the most saves and tied Tad Powers for 5th in the California League in games pitched. After another season in the Japanese minors, he retired from baseball.
